After witnessing the distress caused by hair loss due to illness, Therese Hughes felt compelled to offer a service which considered both the physical and psychological needs of a patient. So successful has been her approach to this sensitive issue, Therese has received an MBE in the 2008 Honours List. Tresses Hairpiece Boutique has established a presence in all the major cancer units in N. Ireland and in the Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre in the Republic of Ireland.

Northern Ireland Patient Entitlements

As Tresses work with the Southern & Eastern Health Trusts of Northern Ireland, customers suffering from the effects of chemotherapy or alopecia living in these areas may be entitled to free wigs. Please contact us for further information. 

 

Republic of Ireland Patient Entitlements

Cancer patients who have private medical insurance with VHI will be reimbursed for wigs provided that they have spent over the required minmum threshold. Quinn/ Aviva will cover the cost of one wig per year for cancer patients.Medical Card holders qualify for 1 or 2 free or subsidised hairpieces per year.

Alopecia patients are unfortunately not covered by any of the private health insurance policies.We have been advised recently that some people, who are in full time employment may be entitled to a medical card specifically for Alopecia only. Please contacr your local HSE office for further information.

Tax Refund is available to all ROI taxpayers who may not be covered with private health insurance and can be claimed using the MED1 form.
